Pro Tip:
There are 4 main causes for filter tank lid failures because of cracks or leaks that require filter tank lid replacement:
- Cause #1: Pressure gets too high in the filter tank resulting in a stress crack in the tank lid. The Jandy R0462000 supports larger 200–250 sq ft filters and handles higher water volume, making pressure control even more critical.
- Solution: Monitor filter pressure gauge. Pressure at 20 PSI or higher indicates the pressure is too high. Clean off filters thoroughly. After cleaning, confirm pressure gauge shows less than 12 PSI, else replace filters. Clean out pump leaf trap and skimmer basket.
- Cause #2: Filter tank location is exposed to all the elements: sun, rain, cold, and heat. The larger surface area of the Jandy R0462000 filter lid increases exposure to UV and weather damage.
- Solution: Consider having some sort of "protective cover" installed to keep the filter unit out of direct exposure to the elements. This is especially important for larger lids like the R0462000 to prevent faster material degradation.
- Luckily, my pool equipment was installed next to the house and under my balcony. 25 years and never had an issue.
- Cause #3: Over-tightening can cause a crack on the tank lid at the fitting location.
- Solution #1: Pressure gauge and air relief assembly fittings should only be hand tightened when installing/re-installing to filter tank lid. Over-tightening using a wrench may cause a stress fracture on the fitting on the tank lid resulting in a leak.
- Solution #2: When removing and re-installing the R0462000 filter lid for filter maintenance, do NOT over-tighten. DO NOT use a mallet/hammer to tighten the locking ring. This will damage threading of the lid, locking ring, and/or filter tank resulting in damage that will cause a leak and require replacement. Extra care is needed due to the heavier weight of the Jandy R0462000 lid.

- A critical part of the filtration, the bottom side of the filter lid has an extrusion fitting which acts as a plug in the filter endcap. This helps direct the hydraulic pressure flow such that the unfiltered water coming in from the pool is forced over the 200 or 250 sq ft. filter surface area and forced thru the filter cartridge where debris is captured.
