One of the most common do-it-yourself fixes for a swimming pool is replacing the pool pump motor. It's recommended to use an electrician to correctly install your pump motor. However, many people attempt to do it themselves. Being a retailer that sells A.O. Smith replacement pump motors, I have received feedback from many customers that are replacing their own pump motors. It can be a relatively easy thing to do IF everything goes smoothly.

It's almost pool season. Would you like to extend your pool season this year? Get yourself a quality solar pool cover. Solar pool covers capture heat from the sun during the day and keep the cool evening air off of the water to prevent losing heat at night. Another added benefit of a pool solar cover is that the cover helps prevent water evaporation.
Some solar pool covers can warm your pool water a full 10 degrees or more.

Owners of the Hayward DE2400, DE3600, DE4800, and DE6000 filters are quickly realizing that their filter systems have been discontinued and replaced with newer Hayward models: DE2420, DE3620, DE4820, and DE6020.
The good news is that the most common parts that need to be replaced, the actual DE Grids themselves, are still available. Further, Hayward is using the same DE grids in both the old and new models. Some other parts are still available as well but many now require an after-market replacement part.

Lots of swimming pool owners are do-it-yourselfers and, as such, they want to buy the parts they need to maintain their pool equipment and install them on their own. Some go to the local pool supply stores where they can get guidance from the pool experts in the store while others try to buy what they need online. When shopping for pool equipment online it is important to be prepared and get all the critical information off your existing pool equipment such as the pool filter manufacturer/model, filter cartridge part number, pool pump manufacturer/model, and pump motor part number.

One of the most common problems in swimming pools is algae. Some seasons it seems you can spend half of your time fighting algae in your pool instead of just enjoying your pool. Algae needs several elements to grow in your pool. The one I am going to focus on here is phosphates. Phosphates can come from several environmental factors such as excessive rain or plant debris. If you can eliminate or severely reduce the amount of phosphates in your pool, you will be able to stop algae from growing in your pool.

I am not only the owner/operator of the All Pool Filters 4 Less website, I am also a pool owner that maintains his own pool. I have an inground pool which is about 10 years old now. It holds approximately 10,000 gallons, which is relatively small by today's inground pool size standards. I'm very much a Do-It-Yourselfer, so I have been maintaining the pool since day one.
Until the last couple years, the pool seemed very easy to maintain.

Over the past year or so several people have contacted me looking for 7.5 inch diameter replacement D.E. grids for their Purex Triton D.E. filter. I have not been able to locate them in the past, but took the time to research them and thought I would share the information. 7.5 inch diameter D.E. grids were made for the Purex Triton D.E. 800 Series filter models. These were models such as SMN800. Typically, the filter tanks were stainless steel. The D.E. grids length ranged from 9 inches to 33 inches.

The fall brings with it one of my favorite things, Florida Gator football. I'm a Gator. Graduated back in 1989. I've been following them ever since. This year as the season started my expectations weren't very high. Coming off a 7-6 season didn't raise my hopes. But then, we beat Texas A & M on the road, then Tennessee, then LSU. There were signs of life....hope was back. Will Muschamp is doing something right.
Now, here it is 11/27/12.

POOL FILTER MAINTENANCE TIP
It's hot and it's time to keep cool in the swimming pool. Is your pool water green or cloudy? Take a water sample to the local pool store to ensure your water has all the proper chemicals. After that if there's still a problem, it's a good bet that your POOL FILTER may need cleaning or replacement. Turn off the pool pump and open up your filter. For a DE filter check to ensure there are no tears in the DE Grids.

It's that time across the country......time to open up the swimming pool. Online shoppers are searching for the best deals. There are lots of places to choose from. Some offer free shipping or flat rate shipping. But more times than not, their product prices are higher to basically include the cost of shipping. Some offer very low prices but charge shipping. Bottom line.......look for best total cost. To get the best possible pricing on filters may be to buy more than one.

Here at ALL POOL FILTERS 4 LESS we pride ourselves on offering the widest selection of quality products to our customers at great prices. We are excited to begin offering new and improved cartridge filters manufactured by PLEATCO. PLEATCO used to have a bit of a bad reputation for making "average" filters. However, new owners of the company have improved their products significantly. One of the biggest changes is the fact that they have went away from the industry standard REEMAY fabric.

Many customers have contacted me over the past couple years asking, "how do I know when it's time to change my filter?". I have been gaining more and more knowledge about pool filters since launching this site back in January 2010. As a matter of fact, much more than what I knew from my own experiences of being a pool owner. For cartridge filters, it's pretty straight forward. Almost all cartridge filters have a pressure gauge on them. Typically, a good standard is to note the pressure reading at the time of putting in a brand new filter.

Anyone who owns a Jandy cartridge filter system please read this. As of today, 3/8/12 it has been discovered that Jandy is currently shipping out Unicel cartridge filters from their facilities in original Jandy replacement cartridge boxes. My distributor just confirmed that over a year ago Jandy stopped using a Chinese company to make their Jandy private label cartridges because of quality concerns. They switched to Unicel. The problem is, they didn't tell anyone. Everyone is still paying Jandy original equipment cartridge prices for Unicel filters coming in a Jandy original equipment box!!!.

As of today, we have started carrying Pleatco replacement cartridge filters. Many of you may have used Pleatco cartridge filters a year ago or more with unpleasant memories. Well, the company was sold to new owners. The owners have upgraded their manufacturing processes and are stating that they are making great strides in producing quality cartridges. First of all, they have improved their filter bands to ensure they will not fall off. Second, they are following original manufacturer specifications when creating their filters.

Cleaning your cartridge filter:
If the filter cartridge has a coating of Algae, calcium carbonate (residue from calcium hypochlorite), iron or any other minerals, soak the filter cartridge in a solution of one part muriatic acid to twenty parts water until the bubbling stops. RINSE THOROUGHLY AFTER. WARNING: Failure to remove all oils and cleaning solutions could result in the permanent restriction of water flow through your cartridge filter resulting in a partial or complete failure of your cartridge filter.

For all you do-it-yourselfers out there that take care of your own pools like I do, I just wanted to make sure you were aware that having a clean pool filter and chlorine in your pool isn't always enough. You should be checking your pool water regularly (I take mine to the local pool store - they check it for free) to see if mother nature is causing any problems in your pool. Too much rain, sun, or humidity can create problems for a pool. Stabilizer, acid, calcium, and sodium bicarb are some of the other treatments your pool may need in order to have that crystal clear enticing pool water.

I'm not quite sure what environmental reasons create the perfect environment
for algae, but when this situation happens, it is very difficult to control it
with typical methods. When the algae first started in my pool last summer I did
what the pool stores typically recommend and that is to brush your entire pool
and clean your filter. This removes the algae from the sides of the pool and
gets the algae out of your filtration system so it doesn't just disperse it
right back into the pool. It is also important at this time to get your pool
water corrected so you have the proper levels of chlorine and pH in your water.

Unicel pool filters are an affordable, quality option for replacement cartridge filters. They are manufactured right here in the U.S. Unicel is a maker of cartridge filters. They do not make their own filter systems, rather they just make cartridges to fit the filter systems of all the other major filter manufacturers. Unicel makes their filters specifically to replace a specific cartridge in another filter system or systems. Further, each filter is made to the exact original manufacturer's filtration specifications.
